- Virtual Data Centers in the Internet
- Virtual Data Centers in the Internet
The project focuses on Virtual Data Center (VDC) architectures relying on the public Internet with quality requirements. We will investigate VDC architectures promoting scalability and portability. Within the project, we will address the following research challenges. i) We will study orchestrators/brokers capable of deploying the structural and functional components (e.g., computational, network, storage) of the VDC on the Internet, possibly interacting with public cloud providers or using local clusters at the edge. ii) We will consider the dynamic relocation of components related to the service optimization, security requirements described in (i), and related Internet measures. Such a relocation will consider changes in the current QoS of the exploited providers and changes in the usage of the VDCs by the customers. iii) We will study the stability of the Internet and how it may affect VDC architectures. iv) We will consider the role, in VDCs, of new virtual/physical appliances like programmable switches and programmable controllers. The project fits the fourth mission of the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience - Education and Research. Specifically, it implements the second component ("From research to business"). Also, it is in the framework of Component M1C2 "Digitization, innovation and competitiveness in the production system" as it contributes to the digital transition and innovation of the production system.
