Unical S.P.A, Casale Monferrato (AL)
- The green way for reinforced concrete constructions: material, design, construction and reuse Responsabile scientifico prof. Camillo Nuti, ICAR09- tipologia tematica: Green))
The project (SSD ICAR/09 Tecnica delle Costruzioni) is aimed at developing structural design strategies and more, and construction techniques that reduce the consumption of building materials in accordance with the principles of sustainable development (objectives in Art. 2 of DM 1061/2021), also using high-performance concretes but made with green technologies. In accordance with the provisions of par. 5.4.2 of the SNSI 2014-2020, the research activities for the development of green concrete will also involve the qualified operational and scientific structures of the Unical S.P.A. company that adheres to the project. The research is aimed at new structures but also interventions on existing heritage (par. 5.2.1 PNR), developing innovative materials whose characteristics, for the purposes of structural use, must be ascertained, also to define appropriate design methodologies. The benefits in terms of economic and environmental sustainability, with reference also to the short medium and long-term impact, will be evaluated both through design applications and laboratory experiments on materials, structural components and their assemblies.
the Research will be carried out in cooperation with the Company:
Unical S.P.A, Casale Monferrato (AL)
The period of research to be carried out at Unical S.P.A. is between 6 and 12 months

- Olivetti digitale: architetture sperimentali e paesaggi industriali (1960-1974) (Responsabile scientifico: prof. Maddalena Scimemi, ICAR18- tipologia tematica: Innovation)
- Digital Olivetti. Experimental architectures and industrial landscapes (1960-1974) (Responsabile scientifico: prof. Maddalena Scimemi, ICAR18- tipologia tematica: Innovation)
The doctorate project in the discipline of History of Architecture (SSD Icar/18) focuses on the issue of the “technical culture factory” fed by the Olivetti Company through the practice of its architects, engineers and technical designers. It aims at contextualising Olivetti’s architectural patronage in Italy and abroad, bringing out the critical years 1960-74 which followed the death of President Adriano Olivetti.
With reference to the goals published in the announcement DM 1061/2021, art. 2, c.1, letter a, “tematica INNOVAZIONE” (https://www.mur.gov.it/sites/default/files/2021-08/DM%20n.%201061%20del%2010-08-2021.pdf), the project profits from the partnership with the Olivetti Historical Archives Association - Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti / AASO, based in Ivrea (Turin, Italy), where the doctoral candidate has the opportunity to consult in person the historic collection related to the research topic (architectural drawings, magazines, pamphlets, documents, etc.), available in open source as index at the AASO website (https://archividigitaliolivetti.archiviostoricolivetti.it/ricerca).
For a period of 12 months, the research is carried out at the Olivetti Historical Archives Association, participating with the activities run by the association for the making of the “digital transition” of its historic collection, following the Italian National Strategy for Intelligent Specialisation 2014-2020 (https://www.agenziacoesione.gov.it/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Strategia_Nazionale_di_Specializzazione_Intelligente_Italia.pdf). The activity implies the study of primary sources, as well as the filling of information in the digital repositories, and in broad terms follows innovative strategies adopted by the association to enhance the accessibility and to increase the value of the historic collection.
Given the international relevance of the company founded by Camillo and run by Adriano Olivetti, the partnership with the Olivetti Historical Archives Association provides an exceptional Doctoral training and gives the opportunity for the candidate to reach a unique profile both scholarly and professionally experienced, specially concerned with innovative strategies of research and digital technologies related to the History of architecture.
